FIFA 23 reveals all its news, including game mechanics and technologies, with a gameplay

One week after unveiling FIFA 23, EA Sports has released a gameplay trailer intended to show off all the new features, including technologies, mechanics, and features, that the game will introduce when it launches on September 30 (or on September 27 in early access). At the content level, we already know that the title will add women’s soccer and the 2022 Soccer World Cup, which will be delivered through a free update.

The first new thing that stands out in the trailer is the HyperMotion2 technology that feeds on motion capture data. To obtain this material, a capture of real 11 vs. 11 matches and training sessions with professional teams is made, including for the first time the capture of a women’s match. With FIFA 23, twice as many motion captures have been made compared to the last installment. This data is processed by a machine learning algorithm that generates more realistic animations.

Dribbling is another area FIFA 23 is looking to improve on. Players will encounter a new machine learning-based dribbling system that promises to deliver natural movement with the ball at the feet. The same machine learning technology also learns from real-world defensive situations and movements gained from data capture, so the defense will be better able to counter the attacking team. On the other hand, we have new acceleration mechanics for a higher level of personality regarding the way players reach their maximum speed.

In terms of gameplay, FIFA 23 introduces a new shooting mechanic called the shoe “based on skill and the balance between risk and reward” that adds “the most powerful and impressive shots” to the game. Set pieces have also been redesigned to better control free kicks, penalties and corner kicks and choose where the ball is hit to change direction, trajectory and spin. At the defensive level, the aggressive tackle is introduced, a feature designed to send the ball as far as possible. This is an especially useful move for countering slams.

Finally, it’s time to talk about the “advanced impact physics” that will only be available on PS5, Xbox Series, PC and Stadia. This technology allows each extremity of the body to more naturally influence the trajectory of the ball when the defense blocks a shot. “Now, the clearances and blocks of the defense and the arms, legs, hands and even fingers of goalkeepers will have more realistic results, determined by the impact of the ball on them,” says EA Sports.
